My name is Lachlan Devine. I'm a tutor, writer, and independent philosopher based in Edinburgh.

Since completing my PhD in philosophy in 2026, I've continued to write and to develop my ideas, especially with respect to language, cognition, action, the self, normativity, art, and Nietzsche. My writing is available here.

I am also in the process of defining and enacting a public philosophy programme, which I call 'alter-academic philosophy'. The idea is to bring the rigour of academic philosophy, especially insofar as it is a participatory, skilled practice, into the public sphere. I also want to defend the idea that philosophy is intrinsically valuable, and by participating one is continuing an important tradition of thought, conversation, and creativity.
